Empathy on the Kids of the Present Generation

Empathy in the present generation is a very important factor to be taught among children. It is a capacity to feel what the other person is experiencing from within, by putting ourselves in that situation and understanding them. It is about sensing another person’s feelings. From a child’s perspective, it is very important that the ability to understand from a very small age because those are the roots for them to understand how to be kind, compassionate, respectful, and value each other’s thoughts and perspectives.

In schools, it is very important to teach children where to stop a lot of indifferences among children. Among some children, it can happen very naturally and in some through social interactions and family bonding.

An American psychologist in his papers from Harvard University says – Empathy has come down to 75% among the children. And he goes on to say that the reason behind these things is that people opt to live alone in bigger cities, fewer interactions among family and in a social community and hence we come to know a few of them, people mind their own business and this can have an adverse effect in our life. If there is no empathy among children, the child may suffer emotional and psychological challenges in the future. While growing up, the child could grow arrogant and rude and he or she may lack the human touch and would not connect with a person effectively. Being empathetic was much higher in the past than the present set of children. The modern world has become heartless and uncaring resulting in the gradual fading away of human values. As quoted by one anonymous person “True Empathy requires that you step outside of your own emotions to view things entirely from the perspective of the other person”.

Basically, if empathy is developed at an early age, that develops an understanding of what another person thinks, feels and that’s how compassion, love, kindness, and the attitude of being a good human being develop and children learn to value things.  Thus, they start respecting and appreciating others in their life.

Concluding, empathy has to be considered very seriously and should be taught in all elementary schools. Teachers should play a very vital role in it.

Teach children how to love, have empathy, and give respect and treat everyone with respect and equality.

How and what we teach our children now about these basic things of good values and thoughts will go a long way in enriching the lives of our future generations.
